Rent a Car in New Zealand – FAQs | Great Rentals

Below are the quick answers to some of our most frequently asked questions. If your questions are not cover in below, please feel free to contact us.

What currency are your prices in?

All prices provided in our website is in New Zealand Dollars: NZD.

Do I need a credit card?

Yes, VISA and/or Master Card is required for a bank pre-authorisation which act as a deposit on the rental vehicle.

Which documents are needed to pick up a rental car?

They are:

  1. Licence from your country
  2. English Translation of your licence, if it’s not in English
  3. Booking Confirmation Letter/Email

Please have these documents ready, when you arrive at our office.

Can I rent a specific car model?

Yes you can. If you are booking directly from our website, we guarantee that the car you book is the car you get.

Is a bond required for renting a car?

Yes, Deposit of $500 is collected as a bond through a bank pre-authorisation on your credit card at our counter on the day of the pick-up. We only accept Visa/Master Card.

What are your cancellation policies?

You can cancel or make changes in your booking without any charges if you let us know more than 7 days prior to pick-up date. 20% of the rental fee will be charged if the cancellation is received between 3 – 7 days prior to the pick-up; and 40% of the rental fee will be charged if the cancellation is notified between 1 – 3 days before the pick-up. If the Hirer cancels within 24 hours from the pick-up, or during the rental period, no refund will be provided.

What happens when I arrive at the Auckland Airport?

Once you are through the Airport checks, please phone us on 0800 688 188 or 09-580 0588, or send us an email info@greatrentals.co.nz.  Then, please come out of the Airport through Door #3, and walk to public pick-up zone. We will come around in our shuttle to pick you up in few moments. It is free to call us from any public phones at Auckland Airport, please see the locations of these phones.

Is smoking in your cars permitted?

No, our cars are strictly smoke-free. A valet charges of $250 may be applied, if the returned car requires special treatments or valet process to remove any sign of smoking.

Can I drive your car to the beaches and off-road?

No, please do not take our cars to off-road or beaches. A minimum penalty of $4,000 may apply.
